Davis Cup is not real if Djokovic, Nadal, Federer don't play it - Toni

In an interview, Rafael Nadal's uncle Toni commented on the ITF changing Davis Cup format making the final stage taking place over a week in late November in Madrid. "I liked the way the Davis Cup was, my best memories of all these years on the professional tour are dated back to the Davis Cup when we played in Sevilla, Madrid and Barcellona. I think ITF did not make a good effort to change the competition keeping it the way it was. That made players impossible the chance to play. For example, the week after Miami you had one week to prepare for Monte Carlo and you had to play there Davis Cup. Last year during this time of the season Rafael played in Valencia but if the tie took place in Australia and on grass, he could have not. He is a professional. That's what happens to Rafael, Federer, Djokovic, everyone. Davis Cup cannot be a great competition if the best players do not compete in it. It's good that a footballer like Gerard Pique and his Company made a change to attract the countries and hopefully, it goes well", said Toni.

"There are many ways to reach success but I always try to make players follow the easiest path. The technology influences you as a player and coach. Before, without technology, I had to make an effort to try to solve things. Now you can be less committed and that's worse for a coach. You cannot control everything."

Several people praised Rafael Nadal for helping with the clean up operation in the Saint Llorenc area affected by floods in October last year. Nadal also donated one million euros. "Rafa came with a group of friends to help the most damaged area. He is an example to follow", said Andres Femenias. "Rafa gets criticized? You always have criticism. I would like to know a thing done well that does not get criticized. His gesture was amazing. Nadal came to help not to take a photo, but to help."

Toni, a common person, added: "Here it did not come Rafa Nadal, the tennis player, but Rafa, the friend. Nadal is one more person."
