Edberg: Federer and Nadal won't be around forever. We are seeing changes
In an interview to Times Now, the six-time Major winner Stefan Edberg praised the era of the Big Four. The Swede said: "The last decade has been extraordinary players, like a golden era almost, these players have been winning everything and that's never seen before and obviously these players like Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal will not be around forever but seeing some changes now, there are some young players coming up, from Canada, America and other different places so it's gonna be a bit of a change. It will take some time but they will be very interesting to see which of the young players will take over the game, maybe five years from now and that's what's fun about following tennis."
On the younger players, Edberg added: "You have some players being out there today and obviously the new generation is 18, 19 and 20 (years old) but it takes a little bit longer to get to the top. Alexander Zverev showed some real strength, Denis Shapovalov has got a good chance of doing well. They are catching on but it takes a little bit longer to go through what I did in my day. From (the ages of) 20 to 23 they will be up there."
Edberg also reflected on retiring from professional tennis at 30 years of age: "30 years of age is probably a little bit early to retire today but I probably could have had a longer career but looking back I played six Davis Cup finals in a row, finishing the season in December, that was probably a course of concern that may be shortened my career."
