Pablo Carreno Busta withdraws from Monte Carlo Masters
Spanish tennis star Pablo Carreno Busta has picked up yet another tournament withdrawal as he has pulled out of the Monte Carlo Masters.
The 27-year-old hasn't played since the early February and Cordoba Open.
Back then, the Spaniard was forced to retire his round-of-16 match to Argentine Pedro Cachin due to a shoulder injury.
Carreno Busta, who skipped the Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami, was also scheduled to open his 2019 clay-court campaign this week in Marrakech but withdrew from the tournament.
Carreno Busta, ranked at No. 28 in the world, is set to miss the Monte Carlo event for the second straight year.
The Spaniard made four consecutive appearances on the clay of Monte Carlo between 2014 and 2017.
Carreno Busta debuted in Monte Carlo five years ago after making it past the qualifying event to clinch a main draw spot.
The Spaniard's Monte Carlo debut campaign ended with a round-of-16 loss suffered to world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
The 27-year-old also made the Monte Carlo round-of-16 in his last appearance before losing again to Djokovic.
In the remaining two Monte Carlo appearances, Carreno Busta lost in the first round four years ago and in the second round three years ago respectively.
Meanwhile, a place in the Monte Carlo main draw has opened for rising American star Taylor Fritz following the withdrawal of Carreno Busta.
The 21-year-old is set for a Monte Carlo debut as he has no previous appearances at the tournament.
The Monte Carlo Masters is set to be held from April 14-21.
