Guido Pella has no chances against Rafael Nadal, suggests pundit
The Amazon Prime pundit Nick Lester believes that Rafael Nadal starts as a strong favorite against Guido Pella in Monte Carlo. Speaking after the Spaniard's straight-set win over Grigor Dimitrov, Leister said: "They played at Roland Garros and [Pella] picked up four or five games. They played at Indian Wells too on the hard courts - he got five games in a couple of sets. Rafa has a good record against lefties on clay as well. I think he is 47 and 2. We talk a lot about the ability for Rafa of the forehand to get into a backhand. But even against the lefties he has been good. Even in the forehand-to-forehand against a fellow southpaw he comes out on top."
On Nadal's ability to cope with the wind, Lester added: "Use of the conditions, that’s one of the things that the top players do. They come out here and they embrace the fact that it is tough conditions. They have such depth to their game and such an array of shots they can use the conditions to overcome their opponents. Rather than getting distracted or bogged down or annoyed with the conditions. It becomes something they use as a challenge and it’s impressive."
On his win over Dominic Thiem, Lajovic said: "I'm very happy today. I didn't expect this, especially not in two sets against a player like Dominic. This was for sure my best match in my life, I think. I produced some great tennis from the beginning until the end of the match and I'm very happy to be in the quarter-finals in Monaco. It was very windy today and it was not easy to hit the ball cleanly. I had more success there and I was moving the ball through the court very well. I was able to dominate with my forehand today and this was the key in the match."
