Novak Djokovic defies gravity, says Boris Becker
In a recent interview, the six-time Major winner Boris Becker praised Novak Djokovic's physical strength and movement. The German, who worked with the Serb from 2013 to 2016 driving him to win six Majors, said: "This guy defies gravity. I do not even know how this guy can slide on hard courts without breaking his ankle. Is he the greatest athlete ever? There are a number of great athletes right now, it seems like everybody has to be a bit more physical, has to play long rallies and we used to play a different kind of tennis. But I would not say that Federer and Nadal were bad athletes. But Djokovic stands out because the way he plays is a bit more physical than some of the others."
On his own career, Becker added: "Pete Sampras was the toughest player for me. I had battles with McEnroe, Connors, there was a great deal of respect but we did not like each other that much and that's the reason why we had this rivalry and tough matches because we could not give in."
"I have had almost 15 years of tennis career, I did not have a long layover, I did not have a serious injury and I was fortunate to play for that long. Some players after a year on tour have a broken back or knee or some other problems besides the court so of course I would have loved to win 15 Grand Slams and stay world No. 1 for five years but it did not happen", concluded Becker speaking about his journey in the professional tennis around the globe.
