I do not expect miracles from Roger Federer on clay, says Rosset

In an interview to Tribune de Geneve, the former world No. 9 Marc Rosset commented on Roger Federer's chances in the clay-court season. Rosset said: "I do not expect miracles, and I think he will just play Madrid and French Open to avoid what he went through last year. A two-month break, even if you are Roger Federer, is a very long one. And then in 2018, he went to Wimbledon without facing a top ten player since the Indian Wells final against Juan Martin del Potro. He had played well in the Halle and Stuttgart tournaments on the grass to prepare Wimbledon. But he had not faced any top player. He just finds a way to save energies at 37 and stay in the game."

Can Federer win the French Open? "With Roger everything is possible. But it will be a different surface than the hard, with other rivals. It's obvious that the best players in the world are able to win on all the surfaces now. But clay is clay: a specific surface that fits certain kind of games like Rafael Nadal or Dominic Thiem's."

In an interview the Switzerland Fed Cup captain Heinz Gunthardt commented on the keys of the Big Three dominance: "I can only speculate, but it is certain that Djokovic, Nadal and Federer are exceptional talents. It is obvious that man does not evolve like an iPhone. It's not just every generation better. Maybe in the past, you just did more sport, almost uninterrupted. I had a relatively long way to school by bike, was almost always close to being late and always had to go full throttle. Today the children are brought by car or school bus. Maybe that will lose some talents. I could put forward many theories, so no one knows exactly.”
