Jurgen Melzer, Dominic Thiem set for more doubles action at Masters events
Austria's Jurgen Melzer and Dominic Thiem are expected to play more doubles tournaments together this season as they are planning to team up at the Masters 1000 events in Montreal and Cincinnati this summer.
Melzer, 37, and 25-year-old Thiem played together for the first time this season at this week's Monte Carlo Masters, where they clinched their first doubles team win.
In their first two team appearances, the Austrians lost their openers in Metz three years ago and in Hamburg last year respectively.
Melzer and Thiem made sure not to pick up another first round exit as they beat Philipp Kohlschreiber and Fernando Verdasco in their Monte Carlo opener before they lost to 2017 Wimbledon champions Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo in the round-of-16.
The Montreal Masters is scheduled to be held from August 05-11, while the Cincinnati Masters is set to be held from August 11-18.
Meanwhile, former world No. 8 Melzer believes that former Chilean tennis star Nicolas Massu was a good addition to 2018 French Open runner-up Thiem's team.
Thiem, who added Massu to his team in the early February, won his maiden Masters 1000 title a month later after beating Swiss Roger Federer in the Indian Wells final.
Surprisingly, world No. 5 Thiem has won only one math since making a splash in Indian Wells as in his following two tournaments he picked up a Miami Masters second round exit and Monte Carlo round-of-16 showing respectively.
