Karl Budge looks to bring Bianca Andreescu back to Auckland

One of the most talked about players on the WTA Tour – Bianca Andreescu is wanted by ASB Classic tournament director Karl Budge for the next year addition as well.

Budge also admits that the Canadian is the talk of the town and it would be a tricky ask getting her back. "We're certainly continuing to have those conversations," Budge said.

"But the hard part when you have such a finite resource like we have, is how quickly you have those conversations. Obviously, she's the talk of the tennis world at the moment, there is a lot of momentum behind her, so we've got to be careful not to be buying at the peak of the market, so to speak.”

"We need to continue to remind her where it all started and how that set up her year. I'm sure if we do that, we'll be in good shape to get her back next year."

Catapulting the rankings from outside the Top-150 to breaking into the Top-25, Budge said that Andreescu would be wanted by all the tournament directors now.

"This was the space where she announced herself to the tennis world and probably to herself," Budge added. "That will hold us in great shape in future years, her experience was an incredibly positive one. I felt we built a god relationship with her and her team around being there for her and helping her get through to her first final."

He also looks at Andreescu as the face of the WTA Tour in the future. "We've got a great track record of that," Budge assessed. "I look at someone like Julia Goerges who's been incredibly loyal to us, so too has Caroline Wozniacki. We seem to be able to hold these relationships with players. Bianca is 18 years old, the star is very bright and we certainly have unearthed someone that could be special here and we'd be fools not to capitalise on that."
