Roger Federer doesn't regret skipping Monte Carlo, says Rusedski

Someone may have wondered that Roger Federer could have played and possibly won the Monte Carlo Masters as the 11-time tournament winner Rafael Nadal did not play his best tennis losing to Fabio Fognini in the semifinals while Novak Djokovic was beaten by Daniil Medvedev in the quarters. Federer never won the event losing all the four finals played. Asked if the Swiss should regret his absence in Monte Carlo, Rusedski, an Amazon Prime pundit, said: "I don’t think Roger looks at it like that. He still looking at the Slams and major titles. And on clay physically, can he play that game where he takes the ball consistently early? Madrid and Rome suit him a lot more. These conditions this week have been wet, they’ve been a little bit heavier, it’s been windy so it’s been very tricky. I think Roger has got his preparation and his sights set on winning another major. And using the clay as a springboard for the grass court season.”

Federer will play his next tournament in Madrid where he last played in 2015: “I think Madrid is perfect for him because of the altitude and the ball goes quicker. It allows him to play his serve and volley sometimes. Usually, that sort of clay court event is not your typical [one] because of the way the ball flies through the air and Federer is one of the best at.”
