Marco Cecchinato: 'I like bringing crowd on my side like I did vs Djokovic'

In an interview with Repubblica, Marco Cecchinato explained how his tennis life changed in the last 12 months. The Italian player is ready to switch it to the clay-courts again competing in Monte Carlo in mid next month. "My game is different, that's why I may make the crowd enjoy: you could see it at the French Open and in the tournaments in general. I like that: I try to put the crowd on my side as I did against Novak Djokovic in Paris. But in Argentina as well, against Diego Schwartzman: having all of them against me pumped me up", said Cecchinato, who will also compete in Budapest, Madrid and Rome prior to the French Open.

Analyzing how he made his breakthrough on Tour, Cecchinato added: "My dream to crack the top 100 rankings made me have hope. Now I am Italy's No. 1, at last year's Rome Open a year ago I said that was a goal, but I would have never believed to see it happening so fast. Anyways Fabio Fognini is still an example to me with all what he did. And I am enjoying my time. Andreas Seppi was an idol for me too."

Cecchinato had to wait 16 days to play a match again after his loss to Albert Ramos in Indian Wells. The Italian said: "I always trained but you lose the match rhythm a bit. Since ever I came to Miami I worked a lot with my fitness trainer both physically and tennis-wise, but that's not definitely an ideal situation. And there is also the new tournament site, in the beginning, I felt uncomfortable."
