Nadal and Roger Federer will have lighter schedule going forward - Pundit

Speaking on Amazon Prime the commentator Rob Koenig analyzed how Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal can aim to play for a few more years and extend their career as long as they can. Koenig believes that a light tournaments schedule will be the key. “It would be interesting whether Nadal chooses to play on a hard court much outside of the majors, next year and the year after", said Koenig. "Last year he only played nine events [on hard courts] and I think he only finished seven. Just shows you how little tennis he got under his belt in 2018. And I think we will see more of that from both him and Roger going forward.

It was interesting what Uncle Toni did say about how bruised and battered his body is. I think he would do well to get two maybe three years more out of the body. I think if he is still playing in three years time that would have exceeded my expectations. I think two is a good number. Three would be pushing the boundary. I don’t see him playing much longer than that."

In an interview to ATP Es, Nadal's coach Carlos Moya said that Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev are the main rivals on clay for the 11-time French Open winner. "You will definitely have more", Moya added. "For name and ranking, those are the most likely ones, but over a swing new faces always appear, especially from the next generation, who are improving pretty quickly. I would not be surprised that Tsitsipas, Auger-Aliassime and others join the group. They do not have limits, and we do not well know how they will answer. Anyone can make a breakthrough."
