Novak Djokovic hates to be a villain - Tipsarevic

In an interview to The Tennis Podcast, the former top ten players Janko Tipsarevic commented on how he looks at Novak Djokovic as a human being. “He is an incredible character", said Tipsarevic. "I feel a lot of time that he is too nice to people. That he is trying to help too many people, which is sometimes affecting his tennis career. You can see this in the way he lives his life off the court with his foundation and the tremendous amount of people he’s helping. Secondly, it is insane how intangible this guy is. It is maybe a stretch to say he doesn’t care about money but I think he is really different when it comes to most people. In the media, he is always saying the right thing but he really feels this way. Sometimes I feel rage when the media twist his words because he said something against this or that guy. My experience with Novak is that he is a really interesting character with a tremendous heart.”

On Djokovic being involved in the leave of the ATP President Chris Kermode, Tipsarevic added: "I think it was one of the things that affected him. Novak hates being the villain. You have a few people that enjoyed it but this is not in his nature. This guy is so forgiving and he is helping so many people in his circle. His message was translated in a completely bull**** way. That he was the main guy who wanted to change Chris because he ruined tennis, it is completely not true. But in the media, he was portrayed especially when Rafa and Roger said they didn’t agree with him, he was portrayed as this guy who was changing Chris and leading the opposition which was basically never his intention. With all the meetings he was doing, this affected him. Novak is really serious about this role as players president, which is against my advice. This is a very difficult role, there were players in the past, I won’t name names, that were in this position just to be the president. But they weren’t even 10 per cent invested in everyday issues like Novak is. In my opinion, he got a little bit disappointed because he was trying to do so much good for tennis but in the end, he was portrayed as this villain who kicked out Chris from the ATP.”
