Pundit raises question marks on status of Rafael Nadal's knee
The former world No. 4 Greg Rusedski believes that Rafael Nadal may be dealing with a knee injury. Following the Spaniard's loss to Fabio Fognini in Monte Carlo, Rusedski said: “It was interesting that he practiced indoors with nobody looking around him. All week he had been outside practicing before the matches. Fabio Fognini did the same thing. That is the question mark on the knee. But even with or without the knee [injury], we have to give credit to Fabio Fognini for that kind of performance.”
Daniela Hantuchova added: “For me it was all about Fabio today. The way he played today there was no one who could have stopped him. In Indian Wells it was very obvious the knee was a problem. Today it was just a bad day at the office. He was a little bit tired and not hitting the ball well as he needs to. But on the other side he was facing someone who was unplayable today. The fact that he was practicing indoors he just wanted to get the rhythm.”
Hantuchova also praised Nadal for signing autographs after the loss: “That’s what he does all the time. I don’t ever remember him not stopping for anyone asking for autographs. That just shows his greatness. Didn’t we say a few days ago that beating Nadal on clay in Monte Carlo was probably the toughest task in sport in general", she has concluded.
