Roger Federer: I hope I helped elevate fashion in tennis
In an interview, Roger Federer commented on how his perception towards the style and the public appearances changed over the years. Federer is an ambassador of 12 companies and 2018 was an important year for him as became an ambassador for Uniqlo and Rimowa. "I was younger and I had to go to some award ceremonies, and we have to look good on the red carpet. I realized I only had one suit and I felt comfortable in it, so I started wearing more and more suits and eventually I sort of enjoyed it. I think it's the same across the board in fashion, whatever you do you have to be comfortable in your clothes and like what you wear. And fortunately, enough Nike has asked me," said Federer, who split with the American brand in 2018 although he is still wearing their shoes.
"In tennis, there is not many enough fashionable guys out there," Federer added. "History is like this. We walk around in tracksuits, if you wake up in a suit to a tennis tournament they are like, What's wrong with you. I have been pushing that envelope a little bit. I hope I helped elevate the fashion sense in tennis a little bit."
Federer who reached the Indian Wells final (lost to Dominic Thiem), and won titles in Dubai (defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas) and Miami (defeated John Isner) will be playing on clay next, at the Mutua Madrid Open in May.
