Roger Federer invites Dan Evans to train with him
Roger Federer is training in Switzerland on clay with a bigger intensity days after days. After that the Swiss player posted some photos and videos in mid-April featuring him hitting the clay practice court for the first time in two years, several fans went to see the Swiss training in the mountains.
During the Monte Carlo Masters week, Federer hit with the 18-year-old Serb Miomir Kecmanovic. Now he has invited the British player Dan Evans to come hit with him. Evans faced Federer in the Australian Open second round, losing in straight sets earlier this year. 12 months ago Evans came back from a one-year doping ban for taking cocaine. After their match, Federer spoke highly of the former world No. 43: "I think he's a good player", recognized the Basel native. "I've seen him play some really good matches over the years. I see why he can cause difficulties to players. He's got a nice slice, defending the court well. He has the variation, which is always a hard thing to play against. He was feeling it today, I thought. He was very sort of cat and mouse a bit. Very interesting. I liked the match. I thought he was playing well. It was enjoyable, yeah."
Evans will play the Estoril Open next week.
We will see how Federer will do in the clay-court season. The 37-year-old is set to play a tournament on dirt for the first time since the 2016 Rome Open, as he competes in Madrid and French Open. He will play in Rome only if he loses early in Madrid.
