Roger Federer: 'Miami was my first international tournament ever'
Roger Federer enjoyed his experience at the Miami Open. The Swiss player made a ton of appearances there and after his win over John Isner, he recalled his memories in the city. "I have seen the transformation, played some unbelievable matches at this event, got in a wild card back in the day as well, played my first final here in 2002 against Andre Agassi, I was a junior champion in '98 over at Key Biscayne and played on South Beach at Flamingo Park under 16. Under 14 I played too, so Miami was the first sort of tournament I travelled internationally as a junior, so to stand here right now really means a lot. John is a great player, great person and I am happy for you that you are playing as well as you are and that you are back in the finals after last year. I am sorry for your foot but I hope and I am positive for you that it's going to be all good and that you are gonna be recovering well and playing great for the rest of the season. Thank you for a great match", said Federer.
The 37-year-old also paid a tribute to Macpherson who helped him and Switzerland to win their first Davis Cup in 2014 defeating France in the final. "He was back end at our winning Davis Cup team in 2014, you were fantastic and you were a great coach."
Federer will now take a rest, he will play Madrid and French Open next making his comeback to the clay-courts for the first time since the 2016 season.
