Roger Federer shares support for Cyclone Idai victims
Roger Federer is a great player but is also a great person. Through his foundation, the Swiss player is helping thousands of people affected by Cyclone Idai in South Africa that caused deaths of more than 600 people. Federer shared his thoughts through a press release: "Cyclone Idai is a unbelievable disaster. And it hit the most vulnerable ones in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. It will take years for people to recover. My thoughts and solidarity are with the thousands of displaced people and families who lost their loved ones."
Another player, Rafael Nadal, did a similar thing last year donating €1 million Euros to the victims of a flood in Mallorca.
Andy Murray announced his support for the victims too. "Cyclone Idai has destroyed crops, displaced families from their homes and severely affected access to clean water and sanitation facilities. UNICEF UK is working around the clock to deliver life-saving supplies and services to children and their families. Up to 2 million people have been affected by the disaster so far and the death toll continues to rise. Along with governments and partners across the region, UNICEF is responding to the affected children and families and supporting a fast, sustainable recovery. Please help by donating to the UNICEF UK Urgent Appeal today."
At the recently-concluded Miami Open, Federer won the title (101st career title) beating 2018 Miami Open champion John Isner. This was Federer's fourth Miami title and the second title for 2019. Following the title, Federer swung to the top of the ATP Race to London, overtaking both Novak Djokovic and Nadal. Djokovic had lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in the fourth round in Miami while Nadal had skipped Miami with an injury.
