Uncle Toni: 'Having another Rafael Nadal will be tough'
In an interview with El Transistor, Rafael Nadal's uncle Toni commented on the Spanish tennis situation. "Spain had very brilliant generations for 20-25 years and repeating them will be difficult. It's not easy to have a Ferrero, a Moya, a David Ferrer... All those numbers wrote brilliant pages in our sports. They get older, the game fits less to the perspective we have and a generational change lacks. Jaume Munar was playing very well, he had chances to win but he lost (to Borna Coric in the Monte Carlo second round). He is a great fighter and he will be at the top. Having a Ferrer, Verdasco, Feliciano or Rafa is tough. We have to help so that players can come up at this level. Carlos Alcaraz plays very well and he will be joining the top ten rankings in four or three years. The game turned pretty aggressive, they play on hard and everyone suffers more. And I do not say it because my nephew plays better on clay. I said that they should try that the Tour, in four or five years, when my nephew may no longer play, changes so that players do not suffer these problems. An authority's job is also about reviewing the sportsmen' health."
He finally said that he never wanted Rafa to face David Ferrer because "he always looked like a very dangerous opponent and he always made things complicated to us."
