Fabio Fognini: Clay season is bit more open this year
Italian tennis star Fabio Fognini says the clay season is a bit more open this year but insists that Rafael Nadal can't be taken for granted despite struggling in his first two clay tournaments.
Fognini, 31, won his maiden Masters title two weeks ago when he beat Serb Dusan Lajovic in the Monte Carlo final.
The Italian's Monte Carlo also included a big 6-4 6-2 win over the record 11-time champion at the tournament, Nadal.
Nadal, an 11-time Barcelona champion, then also failed to win it all in Barcelona as he lost go Austrian Dominic Thiem in the semi-final.
"Clay season is a bit more open this year, with Rafael losing in Monte Carlo and Barcelona, but if Nadal is on fire, he is still 110 percent favorite for every clay court event," Fognini said, per Jose Morgado.
World No. 12 Fognini also explained how he views some things differently now that he is a father.
Fabio on Flavia saying he was a 'wild horse' before being a dad. "I started seeing some things differently, but I'm still Fabio Fognini at the end of the day. I won't change cause people tell me what's right or wrong".
