In Rome: game, set e "Match Ball"

According to the ATP, the Internazionali BNL d’Italia “is a total entertainment experience,” considered one of the greatest tournaments on the professional tennis tour not only because of the level of game and organization displayed, but also because of the high fashion, famous musical performances, and fine food by which it is accompanied.

Federico Prodon has recently been introduced as the man whose creation will be the Roman competition’s first signature dessert: the sweetest of all tennis balls.

“When you think about a dessert you start from the taste, and in this case, I’ve wanted to hide the taste inside a tennis ball with a heart made of creamy fruits in pieces,” explains the Roman pastry chef.

‘Match Ball’, the culinary masterpiece, is created respectfully to the region and season, with strawberries, limes, and white chocolate. The base, made of red-tainted biscuit to symbolize the famous courts of the Foro Italico, supports a spherical part, which is nebulized to reflect the yellow colour of tennis balls.

“The dessert is a moment of ecstasy,” Prodon noted as he presented his work. “We want to eat a dessert made with prime quality ingredients. [...] Through research and selection of the best materials, particularly those present in our territory, it’s possible to design contemporary Italian pastry.”

From May 12th to May 19th, week during which the creme de la creme of professional tennis players will battle to lift the Roman Master 1000 trophy, “Match Ball” will be available in selected VIP areas, as well as in the menu of the Lea Bistrot, the temporary restaurant of the  Internazionali BNL d’Italia.
