Marcus Daniell and Wesley Koolhof poised to make deep run at French Open
New Zealand's Marcus Daniell is confident he and Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof could make a deep run at this year's French Open.
Daniell, 29, and 30-year-old Koolhof are set to play together at the French Open for the first time in their careers.
The two have had some good results this year as they won it all together at the Brisbane International in the opening week of the season.
Daniell and Koolhof also ended runners-up in Budapest, before losing in the Estoril semi-final a week later.
Koolhof has had some notable results with different partners as he and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas ended runners-up at the Miami Masters before making the Madrid Masters semi-final.
Koolhof also fell just short of winning it all at the Monte Carlo Masters as he and fellow compatriot Robin Haase were beaten in the final.
Daniell and Koolhof have been drawn to meet Aljaz Bedene and Hubert Hurkacz in the French Open first round.
"We've had some good wins this year, over some top teams and I think we can do it in a slam," Daniell told the Sunday Star Times.
"I've been to a quarter-final now, which was a bit of a breaking of the seal for me.
"I'd been to the third round quite a few times before then and it's just a different feeling to get past that barrier and into the finals week.
"I don't have that same fear I used to have or the mental barrier.
"Wes has gone deep in a few Masters in a row, so we're actually poised to be in a good position to go deep."
