Physiotherapist shares keys for Roger Federer to stay health on clay

In an interview to CNN Sport, Kyle Edmund's physiotherapist and physical coach Ian Prangley commented on the Roger Federer's comeback to the clay courts. Someone may have thought that the Swiss could have struggled on the surface having last played there in 2016 but he delivered a great game level against Richard Gasquet. "If a player hasn't maintained their aerobic fitness and endurance capacity during the hard court season, then that transition to longer clay-court points can be a problem," said Prangley. "Roger is a very efficient mover on a tennis court, and those players who are most technically proficient and therefore efficient when moving and hitting a tennis ball are at a lower risk of injury. "Remaining injury free is knowing when to train and when to rest so that your body can recover," said Prangley. "When you have a good team of coaches, trainers and physios that work together well, they can plan out a training and competition schedule to maximize performance while reducing injury risk."

Meanwhile, Stan Wawrinka's agent Lawrence Frankopan of StarWing Sports agency explained why the 34-year-old won't play Laver Cup with Federer. "Stan wanted to play in Geneva, it made sense to him and he tried to make it work. "They are okay and that's very important for Stan. We also understand the Laver Cup in some ways."
