Rafael Nadal shares his close memories with David Ferrer

In a press conference in Barcelona Rafael Nadal praised David Ferrer's legacy in tennis, recalling the many memories that connect them. "I have many", said Nadal. "If I am honest, maybe the most emotional moment together was the Davis Cup final in Sevilla in 2011. Also the Barcelona final, in 2009, when he was losing two sets to love against Radek Stepanek and he went to the locker room, I was so sad at that moment and I remember sharing that moment with him and he eventually went through. He was a certainty, you knew he would not fail."

Asked what Ferrer helped him to improve on, Nadal replied: "He was always a tough opponent. Even though I lead the head to head meetings, our matches were so tough. I think he went through a bad era. David is one of the most consistent players who I saw and always playing at a very high level. It's not that he coincided with Big Four, it's that in the major tournaments if you wanted to win them you had to beat at least two if them because they were players who never failed. He deserves much more than what he achieved, for his game level and for human quality. After the Big Four, for me, he was the most consistent players in the last years."

On a potential final against Nadal, Kei Nishikori said: "It would be nice to play the final against Rafa again. In the Barcelona event playing against the Spaniards is not easy because of their great clay-court game. Also, the fans support them all the time."
