Roger Federer, Nadal, Djokovic playing in Madrid was unique - Lopez

In an interview, Feliciano Lopez commented on how it was like to be the Madrid Open Tournament Director for the first time in his life. The Spaniard said: "When you see such a big tournament inside, you realize many things and being there ten days i saw all the commitment that you do so that everything goes well. It's a hard experience for the work rhythm. Also, a tennis player's life does not have anything to do with it. There are 50 people working throughout the year so that everything is okay and I felt very supported by people like Alberto Berasategui and Manolo Santana."

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic all competed in the Masters 1000 event and they all reached the quarter-finals at least. "That was something unique," admitted Lopez. "I think people are still not aware of the luck we has in seeing the best three tennis players ever for several days on the Central Court. It was a success on all levels and the David Ferrer's farewell was the peak. He had a perfect retirement. Last year he saw that the body did not fit him for what he thought that a tennis player of his level should have to and he planned it over the time. He ended up competing against the best players in the world. He picked Madrid to retire and I did everything I could, but the people reacted the way he deserved to. Seeing 12,000 people standing up in a crowd stadium, it makes you being aware of what you did for tennis."

Lopez will compete in the Geneva Open this week.
