Roger Federer: 'Rome is the city I love the most outside Switzerland'
In a press conference, Roger Federer recalled his tournament history in Rome. The Swiss player lost four finals in 2003, 2006, 2013 and 2015: "I would be lying to you if I said I did not care about winning this tournament, especially the match and epic finals with Rafa years ago but I am not here trying to win it otherwise I should have also played in Monaco because I also have not won in Monaco and then I should have played another probably 20 events that I have not been able to win in my life so I am not there to chase all these records and win every tournament possible but if I have a deep run here this week that would make me very happy", said Federer.
On why he came back to the Italian event, Federer added: "I am just really hoping to get some information that could maybe help me in Paris but at the end of the day I am here to enjoy the city, the food, the court here in Rome. I have been coming here since '99 or 2000 and I loved being here, this may be my favourite city in the world away from Switzerland so this is a special place for me, also played a ton of juniors here in Italy so I love the country and its people and I was really in the mood to come here."
