Schett: Mladenovic and Thiem can give specific tennis advice to each other

In an interview, Barbara Schett commented on how dating Kristina Mladenovic can help Dominic Thiem to become a better player and vice-versa. Schett said: "It's impossible to have a normal relationship with a partner outside the professional sports. I can understand that the love between the two is a full one. Kiki can give Domi specific advice about tennis and vice-versa. That's why it works so well between them. There are not so many relationships between tennis players. You need to have a lot of tolerance."

Asked why the Austrian tennis is struggling to have success, Schett replied: "It's a tough path to get to the top. From the age of ten years, I knew I wanted to become the best player in Austria and belong to the International top level. For that, I gave everything." On how younger players' attitude should change, Schett added: "A part of it depends on coaches. There are a few who are passionate and can spend more than half an hour with a talented kid. The competition helped me a lot. I liked to compete and improve. Even Federer and Nadal pushed each other and had to keep working on themselves."

On Thiem's attempt to defeat Rafael Nadal this year after failing to do it last year, Schett concluded: "That was a giant task for Thiem. In the final, it's probably tougher than one previous round because he feels very well there and he can really perform well."
