Stefanos Tsitsipas can reach French Open semifinals, says Corretja

In an interview to Reuters, the former world No. 2 Alex Corretja commented on Stefanos Tsitsipas' chances in the French Open. The Australian Open marked Tsitsipas's breakthrough to the tennis elite this year by beating Roger Federer and then reaching the semifinals. "Whoever wants to beat him will have to fight so much because he is physically strong, he knows how to play on clay, he mixes it up well. Maybe this year it’s still a bit early to say he’ll win the tournament but semi-finals? Yes. He is in very good form but this is the first time he arrives at a Grand Slam with people believing he can go far. Let’s see how he deals with that", said Corretja.

Tsitsipas said: “I am satisfied with my results since Estoril. I had a lot of matches on clay. I think that’s important coming into a tournament like the French Open. I think I learned a lot these three weeks. It’s good to come into a Grand Slam knowing what you did well, what you did wrong, trying to concentrate on those things in order to avoid the same mistakes in the big events."

On the Canadians, the seven-time Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander said: "I think the common thing for all three, Felix, Denis and Bianca is that they are great tennis players but are also unbelievable athletes. Somehow they are tapping into getting great athletes to play the sport, getting them to choose tennis. And what Milos Raonic has done, from a ‘small’ tennis country is unbelievable. He’s not won a major but he’s made a bunch of semis and a Wimbledon final and his work ethic and his approach have shown people that tennis is a serious sport. They are serious fighters, those three."
