A young player to face Federer, Nadal or Djokovic in Wimbledon final -Hult

Speaking to Tennis World USA, the Bastad Open Tournament Director Christer Hult commented on who are the favourites to win Wimbledon. Hult said: "We have a generational change. Roger Federer is a great player especially on grass and he will definitely be one of the guys fighting for The Championships. With Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, it's always difficult. Hopefully, we have one of the younger guys against one of the Big Three in the final. I would like to see Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev or Dominic Thiem playing the championship clash.

On this year's Bastad field, Hult added: "We have a good mix between older and younger players. I spoke with many top 20 players to play, but somehow they rejected, I do not know why. We have Jaume Munar, Casper Ruud, Alexander Davidovich, Ymer brothers and experienced players like Richard Gasquet, Albert Ramos. Fans will enjoy some good entertainment on the Central Court."

Some years ago, per reports, Bastad aimed to host an ATP 500 event and switch surface, from clay to hard. "I get a lot of questions from media about that. You cannot become a 500 if there is no available space for that. Hamburg will stay as a 500 so there is no chance. We are in the European clay season after Wimbledon and for us to change to hard court, there is no reason for that. If we were closer to the US Open, it would make sense. But we would have not gotten better players if it was played on hard. Bastad is one of the most historical tournaments on the Tour, so there is no reason why it should disappear. We have strong support from fans and sponsors. We have a strong financial situation."
