Grigor Dimitrov reflects on tough RG loss against Stan Wawrinka
Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov felt it just wasn’t meant for him to beat No. 24 seed Stan Wawrinka in their French Open third round clash as the Swiss claimed a 7-6 (5) 7-6 (4) 7-6 (8) win.
Former world No. 3 Dimitrov failed to convert a set point in the first set as Wawrinka won the opening two sets on Friday night before the match was suspended due to darkness.
When the match continued on Saturday afternoon, Dimitrov broke back Wawrinka in the 10th game to force a tie-break, where he blew five set points as the Swiss escaped with a straight-set win.
“I don't know what to say, I have the feeling that everything was against me in the last two days and he played one of his best tennis... I don't know who would stop him, especially with this coach right now and the draw he has and the players he'll play,” Dimitrov said post-match.
However, the French Open exit wasn’t the end of the world for Dimitrov as the former world No. 3 has been feeling happy and healthy lately.
“I’m physically good I'm fine mentally. The shoulder is good, which makes me even happier ... Not only with the game but also in life you have so many things. The last months are so beautiful I would say, on court and outside the court,” Dimitrov revealed.
"When I'm happier outside the court and find the right things and moments, it makes me feel even better on the court.”
