Rafael Nadal is the best Spanish sportsman ever - Carlos Moya
In a recent interview, Rafael Nadal's coach Carlos Moya commented on the Spaniard's French Open run. "He had good matches throughout the tournament. David Goffin played a great set and a half against him, against Kei Nishikori Nadal was at a good level but Federer played a very complete match in very difficult conditions. We that played with the wind know how tough it is."
"Over 15 years many things have changed. In 2005 he was No. 2 and he is still after 15 years. He gained experience, game knowledge and he evolved well on all the aspects. He is a player that, despite the time that went on, keeps discovering his limits. Nadal is more aggressive, but not only in hitting the ball but also for his on-court position. It's about taking time to the opponent, and the more he is closer to the baseline, the better is. It's not the same thing when you are three meters away. The ball comes on the other side with less strength."
In an interview, Spain's Tennis Federation chief Miguel Diaz praised Rafael Nadal, an 18-time Grand Slam winner. Diaz said: "Rafa is the best Spanish sportsman ever, the people prefer to see a Nadal's training session than a match of other players."
On how important the Madrid Open is for Spain, Diaz added: "For the Spanish Federation it's the peak because the best female and male players compete and we do a great sport promotion throughout that week. We are pushing for more WTA events to come to Spain because tennis players can be helped to gain rankings points without leaving home. We are trying to have a new WTA event owned by the Federation."
