Roger Federer may be top ten player at 40 years, says Lopez trainer

In an interview to AS, the Feliciano Lopez' trainer Vicente Calvo commented on the Spanish player's longevity following his triumph at the Queen's Club. Calvo said: "If he does not get injured, he can play until the 40s for sure. Roger Federer could stay on the top ten at that age and Feliciano on the top 30 if he wants. He called me to put the order on what was wrong. He wanted to stop the decline to see if he could continue, that's what I understood. But he has a lot of talent that on the court he dominates."

During the Madrid Open Calvo and Lopez met each other at 7:30 AM as the former world No. 14 was the Tournament Director. "He made an effort in order not to disconnect and the following week we made a step up. He is a privileged guy physically. He is the tennis player who I saw caring the most about his eating regime. For him being fit is the key because he needs to be comfortable in closing the points at the net. Sometimes I have to tell him to eat. If he had five more kilos, although if it was muscles, he could not play because he would get injured. He is always under 87 kilos despite he is 1.90 meters tall."

After his win, Lopez said: "Of course playing doubles helps. I mean, this week has been very busy with the weather, and the scheduling was tough to deal with so many matches in one day. But my idea is that doubles help a lot the singles players to improve certain things on their game. That's why I have been playing doubles in the last four or five years with Marc. For me to play this week with Andy was very helpful."
