Roger Federer: 'My team and I always joke with each other'

Roger Federer loves to have fun on and off the court and last week in Halle he had many funny moments with his coach Severin Luthi and physiotherapist David Troxler. The 20-time Grand Slam winner said: "It's normal, we laugh a lot. We always joke to each other. It always depends on where you can warm up, how much privacy you have. When it's private, we can be ourselves without caring for anyone. That's what many players do because we play many matches a year and if it's too serious every time, I would get crazy. That's my biggest strength, I am still relaxed two minutes before the match, then we head into the court and we are like, Good luck, do it well. Then it depends on who is in the locker room. Sometimes it gets filmed, now it's so boring."

On how he improved in Halle, Federer added: "I felt I should have not gotten panicked. I had reached the right balance. I understood the importance of certain times, handle the problem, take the right decisions, play forward, do not make easy mistakes and let the opponent struggle for everything. I think I did a good job this week and I can take something with me."

Federer reflected on what makes special to play on grass. "There are many passing shots, volley winners, slices", said the Swiss. "Good shots, good serve will be rewarded which is not always the case on slow hard or clay court. There you have to hit so many good balls, but then you can go back to the other extreme. To win a point you have to play perfect, and it's nice when you can bluff a little bit more and the footwork is totally different. It is different running. You have to hit well and you already think about how to deliver a defence during the rallies. You have to decide how much risk you want to take from that and most of the times the most aggressive player is going to win."
