Roger Federer plays the style nobody likes on clay, says Boris Becker
In an interview to Eurosport, the six-time Major winner Boris Becker commented on how evolution played a role on the Big Three dominance. "Rafa is playing more aggressive, Novak is playing differently than he was six or five years ago, Roger too. You have to make your game evolve. That's why they are still at the top. Roger plays the style nobody wants and likes to play here on clay, the quick points, and that's one of the reasons why he stays so successful because he plays an old style game.
John McEnroe believes tennis could get more interesting: "Players do not change their styles from grass to clay and hard courts. I think it would be more interesting to see more variety, players having to deal with more adversities. Federer, Nadal or any of the top players do not play that difference between surfaces. Roger made the biggest change two years ago in Australia where he turned more aggressive, took the ball early and felt more confident to head to the net. The way the game set up with the surfaces, it's tougher. Tsitsipas comes to the net, he goes forward, that's the reason for his success."
On all the Majors except the French Open introducing the fifth set tie-break, McEnroe added: "It was a good decision by Wimbledon for example because of the match last too long. We have not seen that many super long matches in the French Open, for example, the Paire-Herbert match was 11-9 fifth set and it was the best match in the tournament."
