Roger Federer: 'Wife Mirka and children are at home, not in Paris with me'
Roger Federer is in Paris with his parents Robert and Lynette, coaches Severin Luthi and Ivan Ljubicic, physioterapist David Toxler. But his wife Mirka and his four children are not there supporting him in the French Open. "I would have never thought to be alone in a Grand Slams, so that's the first time it happens", admitted Federer speaking to the Swiss press.
Mirka and children travalled a lot with Federer over the last year. "We were in New York, Chicago, Tokyo, Shanghai. Then it went like this: end of the year in Dubai, Australia, Indian Wells and Miami. So we decided some time ago that children should be at home for a longer time. It's better for their schedule. But at Wimbledon they will definitely comeback." Mirka was in Paris in the beginning, but then she cameback to Switzerland: "She may comeback later, but we do not know yet. We are thinking day by day."
Federer thanked his fans: “The crowd support is really helping me a lot, it doesn‘t put me under pressure at all, with the crowd in the back I somehow feel that every shot is possible, it‘s not a given fact and it makes me very proud, after all, we are not in Switzerland here."
Meanwhile on his French Open run, Juan Martin del Potro said: "It's true that it's been a very intense tournament. And I had the possibility and I was in the condition to have a quite balanced match with Karen, but that's it. I think that I had a beautiful tournament, owing my physical condition and the conditions of today."
