The Australian led 7-5 1-0 when the Bosnian retired the match, after heavily struggling with the extreme heat and humidity.

Third-seeded Thompson hit nine aces, won 80 percent of his first serve points and saved 2-of-2 of Dzumhur's break point chances in the match.

Thompson, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 45 in the world, will fight against Serb Miomir Kecmanovic for a place in the final.
