Del Potro withdraws from Los Cabos Open due to injury

Juan Martin del Potro has withdrawn from the Los Cabos Open, Mexico, that will take place next week. The 30-year-old Tandil native is continuing his rehabilitation from a knee surgery he underwent in June following an incident in the Queen's during his first-round match win against Denis Shapovalov. Del Potro did not play against the eventual champion Feliciano Lopez in the second round, he returned to Argentina, went under the knife.

The former world No. 3's recovery time is not known yet, but one month ago he admitted that his career may be over. Last year in Los Cabos, he had beaten Marcus Giron, Egor Gerasimov and Damir Dzumhur before losing to the Italian Fabio Fognini in the final. Del Potro will probably shut down his season. He is not committed to any tournament except the mandatory ones - Grand Slams and Masters 1000s.

Del Potro is the defending finalist at the US Open. He defeated Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals but lost to Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the final. It was his second appearance at a Major final, after the 2009 US Open that he won after defeating Roger Federer in five sets.

Meanwhile, In an interview Ivan Ljubicic recalled his 2005 Rotterdam final loss to Roger Federer. The Croat has been coaching the Basel native since the end of 2015. "I am angry! I was leading 4-2 in the third set and I thought about if going forward or not. Of course, I thought too much. Then in the following point, I came to the net. I thought the ball in, the Hawk-Eye Challenge was not there anymore. He should have not won the match," said Ljubicic.
