I thought Roger Federer would have beaten Novak Djokovic, says Li Na

In an interview with Reuters, the former world no. 1 Li Na gave her thoughts on the Wimbledon men's final between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. The former Chinese player, who will be inducted in the Hall of Fame later this week, shared what she was thinking when Federer was leading 8-7 40-15 in the fifth set. “I thought, ‘OK, it’s over.’ After watching the match I couldn’t go to sleep. I think the women’s side is much easier because after I won the Grand Slam, young girls think they can do the same. For the men’s, it’s a little bit tough.”

Li also recalled her Australian Open final loss to Kim Clijsters: “I was close to taking the trophy. Even though I didn’t win the match, it still gave me a lot of confidence.”

Asked if Serena Williams was her toughest opponent, Li agreed: “Only once I beat Serena. Right answer.”
