Muster blames Next Gen for Nadal, Roger Federer and Djokovic's dominance
In an interview with SN, the former world No. 1 Thomas Muster commented on Dominic Thiem's potential and Rafael Nadal's, Roger Federer's and Novak Djokovic's dominance. On Thiem, the Austrian said: "He can certainly win a Grand Slam. He definitely has the best chances in Paris. I think Dominic still has three or four years in order to win. The greatest like Nadal will not play forever. It's unbelievable what the Big Three are doing. But that's certainly a failure of the next generation. Djokovic dropped for a year and a half and he quickly got back to the first place on the rankings. Federer plays a few tournaments a year and he is still there. It would have never been possible before, never. That's why doors for non-top ten players open."
Muster believes there should be a bigger show in tennis: "Today, everything needs to be politically correct. I would find it refreshing to say some bad words time by time. There are still rivalries but not off-court. Also because of sponsors."
On his life after being a tennis player, Muster said: "I like agriculture and design. Over the last two months, I did nothing but preparing my garden. That's a big garden where you have to cut trees. My life is just pretty simple because I need less to be happy. I am one of those luckiest people who does not have to answer e-mails. And if I have to, then I get stressed."
