Nicolas Jarry hopes to win maiden ATP title in Bastad
Rising Chilean star Nicolas Jarry hopes to land his maiden ATP title this week in Bastad.
Jarry, seeded at No.5, saw off France's Jeremy Chardy in straight sets 6-1 6-4 to reach the semifinal in Bastad.
The two players were tied at 1-1 after the opening two games of the first before Jarry won eight games in a row to open a comfortable 6-1 3-0 lead.
Chardy got one break back in the fourth game of the second set to put an end to Jarry's run.
Jarry managed to hold off Chardy as he saved four break soints in the eighth game before serving out for the match two games later.
"It would be amazing (to win my maiden ATP title here). It's a great tournament. I'm very happy to be here and if it comes this week I'll be very happy," Jarry said during his on-court interview after beating Chardy.
World No. 64 Jarry hasn't dropped a set this week in Bastad as he also claimed straight-set wins over Henri Laaksonen and Mikael Ymer respectively.
Jarry will fight against Argentina's Federico Delbonis for a place in the Bastad final.
