Roger Federer: 'After losses, I used to scream and break my racket'

In an interview, Roger Federer commented on the controversial behaviour he has a kid at the beginning. The Swiss player said: "I was very up-and-down. When I would lose matches, I would cry very much especially I would crack my racket and scream around the tennis court and then that was one stage, I think it was about 16, 17 I couldn't practice more for one hour, one hour and a half. Every time I was losing my mind that they should send me off or I would walk off automatically myself because I knew what was gonna come."

On why he picked tennis over football, he said: "I always liked to be in control. In tennis, you win or lose, it's to blame. In soccer I always felt like the goalkeeper made this mistake, why didn't you tackle that guy earlier. I always find these excuses even though I really enjoyed the team sport."

On the support given by his wife Mirka, Federer concluded: "Tennis can sometimes be a very lonely life at times. You are just there and you are waiting for your matches. There is a lot of waiting going on for us in the business. With Mirka, I would never feel the life is boring or lonely."

On the Basel native, his former coach Tony Roche said: "He is such an all-around player, which is unusual in today's tennis. He reminds me a lot of Rod Laver."
