Roger Federer unlikely to have stadium named after him anytime soon
Roger Federer is loved and liked in Switzerland, his native country but he has not been able to get a stadium named after him yet. The pick up of firms for renaming the St. Jakobs-Halle in Halle to Roger Federer Arena has not been going well. Only 700 out of 3,000 firms have been made. "It has been more difficult than we imagined it would," said Barbara Bernasconi, one of the leading authorities, to Bazler Zeitung. "People have different opinions. Someone says Federer is not died yet, while others do not think that renaming St. Jakob's Hall is too important. Also, he earned millions but he does not pay taxes in Basel."
They had planned to pick all the firms within October. "But it would be a miracle if the 3,000 firms were ready in three months. Anyways, I am still confident", she said, adding that the topic will be shared on the Internet too. The main reason is that it rarely happens that a street or court gets renamed after a still-living person. In Biel, however, Federer has a street named after him as well as in Halle, Germany.
Meanwhile, Casper Ruud recalled his loss to Federer in the French Open third round earlier this year: "That day was very funny and exciting. It's difficult to describe it in one word. I would have liked to win but Roger was a bit too good and he played too faster than me. That was a completely new experience for me. The court was much bigger. It was a different feeling and there so many people on the grounds."
