Coco Gauff wants to emulate Serena and Venus Williams in sportsmanship
Speaking to reporters in Washington, Coco Gauff spoke about her big progress since reaching the Wimbledon fourth round. "My ranking definitely jumped a lot, so I am able to get into more tournaments but that's not too much of a change. But my ranking being higher definitely allowed me to play bigger tournaments," said Gauff.
On how she deals with expectations, she added: "I do not really feel too much weight on me because I am just being the best person I can be and I know that people look up to me so I know that helps a lot more because I know that people are watching and I want to be a good role model for girls one day. I hope that like I am talking about Venus and Serena are my idols, one day somebody says I am theirs."
On her goals, Gauff shared: “My dreams, they’ll always be the same until I actually accomplish them. Be No. 1, win grand slams. My overall goal is to be the greatest of all time.”
On WTA rules that do not allow her to play as many tournaments as she wants, Gauff said: “I understand the rules, and it’s meant to protect the young player. Obviously, I want to play more tournaments. But I do wish they could adjust it maybe just a little bit.”
On her father Corey, she concluded: “He tries to space out the tournaments so it allows me time to train. Even when I was a junior, I didn’t play nearly as many tournaments as the other people did. My whole life, I’ve never played too many tournaments because he always wanted to give me time to develop.”
