Svetlana Kuznetsova pulls out of Washington due to Visa Issues

Former Grand Slam Champion from Russia Svetlana Kuznetsova recently pulled out of the Washington Open after failing to obtain her Visa the US.

Kuznetsova announced on Instagram that she would not be able to play the event, which starts from July 29 to August 4. To make things worse, the Russian is the defending champion at the event and has been complaining that she has been waiting for the US visa since February.

"Unfortunately I had to pull out of Washington due to my problems with US visa. Wanted to apologize to all my fans who were waiting for me there... Never had issues like this in my life, hopefully one day I can finally get a visa and play at least some events of the US swing," the 34-year old athlete wrote.

A former champion at the US Open, Kuznetsova’s participation at the Last Grand Slam of the year that plays out from August 26 to September 7 is also uncertain due to her visa constraints.

Kuznetsova has won 18 WTA titles in the course of her career, including two Grand Slam tournaments (2004 US Open and 2009 French Open).

The 34-year old is currently ranked outside the Top-100 of the WTA Rankings at No.108 but has been ranked as high as No.2 on the WTA Charts.
