Wimbledon - Monday Schedule:Novak Djokovic starts run against Kohlschreiber
As usual, in Wimbledon the men's defending champion opens the schedule on Monday. This year it's Novak Djokovic, who has won his fourth title in the All England Club 12 months ago defeating Kevin Anderson in a straight-set final. The Belgrade native will face the German Philipp Kohlschreiber who achieved his best tournament result in 2012 reaching the quarter-finals. Djokovic leads head to head meetings 10-2, the only Kohlschreiber's wins came in 2009 French Open and in this year's Indian Wells when Djokovic did not play his best tennis as he was competing in his first tournament since the Australian Open. Naomi Osaka, who has won last year's US Open and this year's Australian Open, will play against Yulia Putintseva.
The local hero Kyle Edmund will start as a favorite against Jaume Munar. On the No. 1 Court Simona Halep plays against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, the Romanian reached the 2014 semifinal here. Alexander Zverev, who never went beyond the fourth round here, will meet Jiri Vesely, then Venus Williams will face the 15-year-old Cori Gauff who is coming from the qualifiying draw. Stan Wawrinka, who achieved his best result in Wimbledon in 201l4 and 2015 losing to Roger Federer and Richard Gasquet both times in the quarter-finals, will play against Ruben Bemelmans. Karolina Pliskova, Stefanos Tsitsipas and the defending finalist Kevin Anderson are also on the schedule.
