ATP Rankings: Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer chase 2000 points

In the calm before the storm, the week behind us brought no changes in the top-25, with the players from the top skipping Winston-Salem and preparing for the last Grand Slam of the season at the US Open. Despite losing points in Cincinnati where he lost to Daniil Medvedev in the semis, Novak Djokovic is still 3740 points clear of Rafael Nadal, having to defend 2000 points in New York as well. Novak is spending the 266th week on the ATP throne, moving two away from Jimmy Connors and four from Ivan Lendl, ready to pass both in October and stay on the trail of Pete Sampras and Roger Federer, the remaining players in front of him. Rafael Nadal took a couple of weeks off after winning Montreal, preparing himself to attack the fourth title in New York and reduce the deficit to Novak even more, already having the lead in the ATP Race ahead of the last Major of the season.

Nadal has to pass John Millman in the first round and then Thanasi Kokkinakis, Ernesto Escobedo, Hyeon Chung, Fernando Verdasco, Marin Cilic, John Isner, Karen Khachanov and Alexander Zverev to reach the semis and defend the points he won in 2018, advancing into the last four at the previous four Majors. Roger Federer is safe in the third place, far behind Djokovic and Nadal but also 2000 points ahead of Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev who complete the top-10 group together with Kei Nishikori, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Karen Khachanov and Roberto Bautista Agut, with many possible changes in 15 days.

The top-25 players have stayed where they were a week ago and the first player who gained places is Winston-Salem finalist Benoit Paire, passing Lucas Pouille, Taylor Fritz, Dusan Lajovic and Nick Kyrgios, with the semi-finalist Denis Shapovalov moving closer to the top-30 after moving ahead of five rivals. Winston-Salem champion Hubert Hurkacz is in the top-35 for the first time in a career after the first ATP crown and 250 points while the quarter-finalist Frances Tiafoe earned seven places on the list, the most by any player in the top-100 before more significant shifts at the US Open.
