Bautista Agut: 'Beating Novak Djokovic twice was a confidence boost'

Roberto Bautista Agut commented on his two match wins over Novak Djokovic this year, in Doha semifinals and Miami third round, both in three sets. The Spaniard said: "Last year we already had tough matches, I had won one and lost others, and beating him twice in 2019 was a confidence boost."

On his loss to Djokovic in Wimbledon, Bautista Agut added: "We were one set all and I think in the third set I deserved a bit more. It was my first Grand Slam semifinals and he was in that situation for 20 or 30 times. I am happy, I added more experienced to my tennis."

Sharing why he is a rare Spanish player, he said: "I have more flat shots, a different kind of shot that fits the hard courts because my ball goes faster with the slice backhand."

Did he try to change it as a kid: "No, because as a kid I played with an adult's racket, very big for being a kid and it was the only way to move the ball: hitting the ball a bit slower."
