Despite loss to Djokovic, Rome was my best tournament - Schwartzman
In an interview to The Jws Diego Schwartzman spoke about his season overall. The Argentinean believes his most important tournament of the year was Rome where he lost to Novak Djokovic in a close three-set semifinal match. "I was not playing my best tennis at that time. The clay season didn’t start in the best way and then in Rome I started playing really, really well again", said Schwartzman.
On his win against Robin Haase in the US Open first round, Schwartzman added: “We last played more than two years ago. The time is different and I think I have improved a lot. I am a different player than two years ago. So I think that was the key. I knew already before the match that it is difficult when you play a guy you have never beat. So it was a little tough. Sometimes I was nervous. Sometimes I didn’t play my best. But I won in three sets so I am very happy.”
Meanwhile Roger Federer spoke about how it feels to play under the roof: "It helps me but doesn't help the other guys. I'm aware of that. Doesn't look very promising from what I heard, which is terrible. It's good for the media or for TV, at least you've got something going on. For fans, as well, who paid maybe high price for the ticket, they get to see some tennis. I think that's good. For us, the players, I mean, it's good for a few guys, and the rest it's not good. I think this roof is more important when it comes to semis and finals, you know, than a day like today, because they're going to fall behind, matches are going to get cancelled, and then other players have to back it up, back-to-back days. So it's going to be tough. Here I definitely profit from everything I guess I did in the game and my ranking to be put on center court on a day like this."
