Ferrer: 'Me and Rafael Nadal are very similar, I learned a lot from him'
In an interview to XL Semanal David Ferrer spoke about his close relationship with his compatriot Rafael Nadal. The former world No. 3 said: "We are very similar. He is from a little town like me. I speak Valencian and I speak Mallorcan. Also, with Rafa and his family is easy. I learned a lot from him. I always try to look at people who bring something and Rafa brings a lot of good things at a professional and personal level. I was able to see him playing with this ambition, and the way he approached the matches made me learn and grow tennis-wise. And I tried to add my essency to my game. Rafa was a bless for me, even if he denied it. Before Nadal, Djokovic and Murray came, I was not such a good player. They made me reach the level I die. I achieved my biggest time of maturity when they came. I would have not evolve and I would have not been so good."
Asked what he is the happiest with in his career, Ferrer replied: "The best I had was my consistency, which allowed me to stay at the top for many years. I would change many things. Something I would definitely change? The way to work physically. I have a lot of issues with the Achilles and when I was younger, because of lack of knowledge, I did a kind of preparation that influenced me in the end of my career", concluded the 37-year-old former world No. 3.
