Hyeon Chung: I want to finish the season injury-free
South-Korean tennis ace Hyeon Chung hopes to finish this year injury-free after missing five months of this season due to back injury.
Playing in his first event since February, former world No. 19 Chung made it all the way at the Chengdu Challenger earlier this month.
Chung, who has plummeted to No. 170 in the world due to his health issues, is having a positive campaign at the US Open .
The 23-year-old earned a place in the US Open main draw through the qualifying event and then beat home favorite American Ernesto Escobedo to progress into round two.
"I think I’ve overcome the past five months well,” Chung said after beating Escobedo, as revealed on The Dong-a Ilbo. “Watching other players, I thought I want to come back as soon as possible. I want to finish the season injury-free.”
Unfortunately, Chung's career hasn't been progressing the way many believed it would after a semifinal finish at the Australian Open in 2018 as the South-Korean has been struggling with his health ever since his big run at Melbourne Park.
