Lucas Pouille: 'Thank you Andy Murray for paving the way to Mauresmo'
In an interview in Los Cabos, Lucas Pouille spoke about his co-operation with the female coach Amelie Mauresmo. "I do not care about gender, but that the person who coaches me makes me improve because she was the best. I thank Andy Murray for opening the door", said Pouille. Murray and Mauresmo worked together for two years and a half.
Meanwhile, Murray spoke about his next plans. He is playing doubles in Washington. “What I'm doing here is, for the most part, I'm going to practise singles and play doubles to compete and then just each week I'm just going to see. If I keep progressing and I feel good in three weeks' time, then I'll play singles as soon as I'm ready. I'm not quite ready at this week, but I hope at some stage soon I will be. Best-case scenario probably would be Cincinnati, and then if I wasn't able to play in Cincinnati, there's a good chance I would probably come back in the tournaments after the US Open."
Meanwhile, Fabio Fognini, another top contender for the title in Los Cabos, spoke about what it means to be world No. 9, his career-high ranking: "Rankings are the consequence of what you do, one of my dreams is to win a major tournament and I have to be prepared to win it."
Fognini will open his run in the Mexican event against the Spaniard veteran Marcel Granollers.
